Why Should We Like Any Politician?

As an Independent and small business owner, I am amazed at how the American public is viewed by elected officials at the National level.  After working in the Federal government for over 20 years, I thought I had seen more than my share of craziness.

A great site that checks that facts when politicians talk:  www.politifact.com
Amazing what candidates running for political office will say.  I decided to start looking at this after people were telling me "facts" they believed were true.  I kept getting the feeling that it was either "A sucker is born ....." or "If it sounds too good to be true.....".

What is stupid?

Believing the American public likes gridlock (both parties).

Believing that Americans want to vote for any incumbent in Washington DC.

Working half the year and get paid for the full year and continue to vote themselves pay increases (Congress).  They should not be paid if there personal worth is more than 5 times that of the average citizen (it is a privilege to serve the public).  They should not be allowed to make money off Wall Street based upon inside information or as a result of any law or regulation they vote on.

Failing to reduce business income taxes (especially for companies with gross income of less than $5 million per year).

Congressional members cannot be recalled (only removed by other members of Congress).

Continuing to spend, guaranteeing that our Country will go bankrupt.

Continuing to protect Wall Street from regulation and failing to prosecute crimes from Wall Street executives.  Related:  Don't fire or hold accountable anyone at the SEC that was incompetent.

Accepting money from energy companies to attack EPA because some companies chose not to install mercury controls on older power plants for the past 20+ years to maximize profits.  States-rights hard core advocates say leave it to the states to protect the environment.  From their perspective, they would protect their citizens by building power plants near their state borders downwind of the prevailing winds (no responsibility for other states).  Probably would work with poorly treated wastewater.   Amazing how they cite over regulation to accept more lobbyist's dollars.

Thinking that the Constitution should be used to take away rights rather than guaranteeing rights.  Some conservative politicians believe that our forefathers got it wrong in demanding separation of church and state and that getting a Constitutional Amendment to prohibit marriage and civil unions for gays is a priority.  Weird.  Jobs, the economy, and wars seems like the biggest priorities for America.

Rejecting a balanced budget amendment or anything that would limit or result in a reduction of the size of government.

Idiots that signed a "no tax increase" pledge and use that idiot's pledge to refuse to negotiate with each other.  I do not like tax increases, but anyone who signed a pledge like that should be removed from Congress (Democrat or Republican or Independent).  We will never see loopholes that were bought by lobbyists for large corporations closed due to this attitude.  I am also for a flat tax.  Yea, everyone pays something for the services they receive.  Even it $5, you have to have ownership.

Continuing to circumvent Congress and fight wars that are not authorized by Congress.

Not enforcing laws on illegal immigration but continuing to challenge any State that passes its own laws to protect the legal citizens of that State.

Not shutting down the Mexico-US Border, declaring drug cartels terrorist organizations and protecting US citizens in border states.  Why are our troops not on that border?  Again, weird.

Failing to implement the recommendations of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform.

Seeking to pass laws that regulate personal freedoms rather than focusing on jobs and the economy (both parties).

Electing members of Congress based upon their views on social issues (conservatives and liberals).

Failing to pass a Constitutional Amendment severely limiting campaign contributions (only way to override the Supreme Court decision to allow business and foreign governments to buy politicians).

More coming....
