What can you do to prepare?      Plan and Prepare.  Do not rely on the Government.

1.  Start here:  http://www.pandemicflu.gov/plan/individual/index.html    While the site advises 2 weeks worth of food and water, 4 weeks or longer would be more prudent.   

 

Food (Remember, electrical service may be intermittent, so minimize foods that must be refrigerated).  Not a bad time to visit Costco or Sam's Club.

Bandaids and General medical supplies.

 

Flashlight, batteries or a light that hand cranks rather than using batteries

 

Bleach (for general disinfection)

 

Water Storage containers (large – disinfect first).

 

Can opener – manual

 

Plastic storage bags

 

Duct tape

 

Gas Grill, cookstove, and propane

 

Keep all cars filled with gas

 

Gun/Ammunition (OK, hate to bring this up, but you have to consider personal protection).

 

Cash (fives, tens, twenties).  Some stores, if open, may require cash transactions only.  Others may require credit cards (electronic) only.  Good idea to have electronic access to bank account and on-line bill paying. 

 

Games, Cards, poker chips...... may need to gamble a little.

 

Wood (winter preparations for fireplace or woodstove).

 

Retirement Investments:  Immediately move to a secure investment (G Fund)
